About Shamrock Lakes

History of Shamrock Lakes

The town of Shamrock Lakes in Licking Township is Blackford County’s youngest community, incorporated on May 21, 1973. The town contains six lakes that were created between 1960-1965, the first of which was originally a watering location for one farmer’s cattle. Shamrock Lakes is one of only 5 cities in the United States that bears the symbolic emblem of Ireland (the shamrock) in its name.

As of 2020, Shamrock Lakes boasted a population 261, making us a cozy community, but one that has been steadily growing since 2000.
